Bo Liu, MD, PhD
A senior hepatobiliary surgeon. My work focused on the liver, the bile ducts, and the gallbladder.
Visiting Assistant Research Professor, Liver Center, Yale University (2009–2011)

I am a senior hepatobiliary surgeon. My work focused on the liver, the bile ducts, and the gallbladder.
For about 30 years, I worked as a hepatobiliary surgeon, Chief Physician, and PhD supervisor at The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (Lingnan Hospital) in Guangzhou, China. In 2025, I founded the hospital's Gallstone Center.
My signature work is surgeon-led, zero-X-ray (fluoroscopy-free) ERCP and peroral cholangioscopy. I call it One Team, One Room, One Strategy. The surgeon leads. It is a one-stop approach, done in the operating room under a single anesthesia. In the same operation, if the endoscopic approach can’t be completed, the team can switch right away to laparoscopic surgery.
I am the author of 8 medical books (in Chinese).
In China, my patient education videos reach 200K+ followers on Douyin and 50K+ on Xiaohongshu.
I was a Visiting Assistant Research Professor, Liver Center, Yale University (2009–2011).
I live in Southern California.
